Pai wasn't the favorite one to her grandfather. Her grandfather doesn't approve of her because she wasn't a boy. You see Pai had a twin brother but he died at birth as well as the mother did. During her whole life Pai's grandmother was the one that supported her. While the grandfather just kept putting her down. The grandmother would tell Pai that her grandfather was just jealous that she could do the things a grandson can do. Until one day Pucker was going to Pai's performance. He was nicely dressed in the clothes Pai laid out for him on his bed. He was about to leave to the performance until he heard a cry of a whale. Pucker went to the lake and saw bodies of helpless whales on the shore. The next day people from the village were helping the whales. Pai saw Pucker walk towards a whale on the far other side of the shore. He started to sing a ritual song, Pai was getting near the whale but then he yelled at her to get away. She did as she was told. Later on Pucker and the people started to try to put back the whale back in the ocean. Pai was on the shore watching as they all failed. They all walked away in failure but Pai went towards the whale. She got on top of it and all of a sudden the whale started to move back to the ocean taking Pai with her. Pai then vanished and the grandmother started to cry out her name. Pucker was there standing on the shore crying to himself that it was his fault that she had vanished. Luckily they found her and Pucker started to love Pai cause she returned.
